Major Terror Plot Foiled in Delhi: 40 Kg Explosives Used, 3 Tonnes Seized; Entire Network Arrested, Says Shah

In a major breakthrough for national security agencies, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday revealed that a massive terror plot targeting the national capital was successfully foiled, with authorities recovering over three tonnes of explosives and arresting the entire network involved. The operation, described as one of the most significant counter-terror actions in recent years, exposed the scale and intent of the planned attack, which officials say could have caused unprecedented damage.

According to Shah, the investigation revealed that 40 kilograms of high-intensity explosives were already used in a recent blast, while the remaining stockpile was seized during coordinated raids conducted across multiple locations. The operation was carried out by central intelligence agencies in close coordination with state police forces, following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The Home Minister praised the swift response of security agencies, stating that the case demonstrated the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism. “This was not an isolated act but part of a larger conspiracy aimed at destabilising the country. The successful dismantling of this module prevented a major tragedy,” Shah said while briefing the media.

Officials revealed that the arrested individuals were part of a well-organised network involved in procuring, transporting, and assembling explosives. Preliminary investigations suggest that the group had links across state borders and was in the process of planning multiple strikes. Digital evidence, financial trails, and communication records played a key role in tracing the network’s operations.

Security agencies also confirmed that sophisticated materials and detonators were recovered during the raids, indicating a high level of technical expertise. Forensic teams are now analysing the seized explosives to determine their origin and whether they were smuggled from across the border or sourced domestically.

The government has assured citizens that security has been significantly tightened across major cities following the operation. Additional surveillance and intelligence measures are being implemented to prevent any retaliatory or copycat attempts.

Opposition leaders, while welcoming the arrests, have called for transparency and accountability in ensuring long-term security preparedness. Meanwhile, senior officials reiterated that India’s intelligence framework has grown more robust, enabling authorities to neutralise threats before they escalate.

As investigations continue, officials have hinted that more arrests could follow in the coming days. The successful bust has once again highlighted the importance of coordinated intelligence efforts in safeguarding national security and preventing large-scale terror incidents.
