‘Coolie’ Roars Past ₹50 Crore in Advance Sales, Eyes Record-Breaking Rajinikanth Opening

With just four days to go before it hits theatres, Rajinikanth’s highly awaited action spectacle Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is already rewriting box office history. The film’s advance booking tally has stormed past ₹50 crore worldwide, and the surge shows no sign of slowing down.

The presales journey began overseas before tickets even opened in India, and it’s been nothing short of phenomenal. In North America alone, advance collections have reached USD 1.7 million (around ₹14 crore), with the USA contributing USD 1.45 million from over 56,000 tickets sold. This already beats the premiere day record of Lokesh’s own Leo (USD 1.3 million). Globally, Coolie’s overseas advance total has hit ₹41 crore, higher than the lifetime foreign earnings of Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life, putting it on track to break Leo’s all-time Tamil film pre-sale record of ₹46 crore.

In India, advance bookings opened in phases starting Friday. The domestic numbers have already touched ₹14 crore, with ₹10 crore locked for day one alone. The Tamil version is driving the charge with nearly ₹10 crore, while Telugu and Kannada dubbed versions have seen strong starts. The Hindi version is slower for now but is expected to catch up as release day nears.

What’s more, Coolie has already overtaken Jailer’s ₹18 crore pre-sales record in India, and projections suggest the film could double its current figures before its August 14 debut. The star-studded cast, Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and a special appearance by Aamir Khan, adds to the nationwide buzz, positioning the film as a true pan-India blockbuster.

If momentum holds, Coolie could mark the biggest opening of Rajinikanth’s career and stand tall among the largest opening weekends in Indian cinema’s history. His last outing, Vettaiyan, was an action drama, but this time the superstar seems poised to unleash an opening frenzy unlike anything fans have seen before.
