In a bold move that signals its growing dominance in India’s aviation sector, the Adani Group has announced an ambitious $15 billion expansion plan to upgrade and develop its airports across the country by 2030. This strategic investment marks one of the largest infrastructure commitments in India’s aviation industry and aims to position the group as a global benchmark in airport operations and passenger experience.
Under this mega-expansion blueprint, the conglomerate plans to modernize terminals, build new runways, introduce advanced air-traffic technologies, and enhance multimodal connectivity at its existing airports, including Mumbai, Lucknow, Guwahati, Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, and Mangaluru. The vision centers on transforming these airports into smart aviation hubs capable of managing India’s rapidly rising passenger traffic.
Industry experts believe this move aligns closely with India’s projection of becoming the world’s third-largest aviation market within the next decade. With air travel demand surging post-pandemic and smaller cities gaining connectivity, the Adani Group is capitalizing on a long-term growth curve. The company also intends to introduce sustainability-driven solutions, such as solar-powered facilities, electric ground fleets, and carbon-neutral terminals, to align with global green aviation goals.
A significant focus of the plan includes the redevelopment of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the parallel development of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, expected to drastically boost metro-region capacity. Together, these upgrades are projected to handle more than 100 million passengers annually by 2030.
The expansion is also expected to create thousands of jobs in construction, technology, retail, logistics, and aviation services, providing a major boost to the Indian economy.
