A 21-year-old student residing in a PG accommodation in Ahmedabad has lodged a police complaint accusing a man she befriended on social media of sexual harassment, blackmail, and extortion. According to the FIR, the incident began around six months ago when she accepted a friend request from a man identifying himself as Karan Shah. The two bonded over belonging to the same community, and their regular conversations soon led to a meeting at a city mall, where Shah proposed marriage and even spoke to her mother, building a sense of trust.
The complaint states that during a later meeting at a hotel, Shah allegedly took photographs with her. Over the next few months, his behaviour changed, and he began demanding money. When she refused, he allegedly created fake social media accounts and threatened to leak the photographs. Under pressure, the woman reportedly sold her gold jewellery and transferred ₹2.86 lakh to him.
The situation escalated on 29 August when Shah allegedly made a WhatsApp video call, stripped naked, and made sexual demands while threatening further extortion. Distressed, the victim informed her parents and approached the police. An investigation has been initiated.
